A. Content

In this course, we first deal with some scientific frameworks and then you will experience group processes first hand by participating in a four-day excursion.

This excursion offers you starting points for gaining insight into the development of groups, your own behaviour in group and important requirements for team functioning. We expect active participation during this excursion.

B. Goals

This course contributes to the following professional roles of a psychological consultant: coach / talent developer, HRM expert and modern professional.

At the end of this course the student is able to:

  • reflect on group dynamics based on three perspectives.
    • Firstly, the student can reflect on his/her own role in the group. He/she is aware of his/her own behavior and the impact of that behavior on the group or others.
    • Secondly, the student can reflect on the behavior within the group. He/she gains insights regarding the processes, patterns and general themes that are present in the group, their impact on group members as well as others’ roles within the group.
    • Finally, the student can engage in hypothetical reasoning about the (the impact of) intentions, behaviors, characteristics, perceptions and interventions of group members and oneself.
  • know theoretical frameworks concerning team processes and team functioning as well as use and apply them on experiences and situations during the excursion.
  • reflect on cause-effect relations in the development of groups and the contribution of specific boundary conditions.
  • use observations and experiences to gain insights in behavioral processes that take place within groups and teams.

Students should be able to understand a scientific English text.
