Introduction to OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) Using a tool OLAP (Online Analytical Processing). This tool allows analysis of corporate data through multidimensional cubes.
The student must then:

  • Understand the context of transactional systems, data warehouse and OLAP tools.
  • understand how multidimensional screening of figures can help in the management process.
  • Understand the characteristics of multidimensional data structures. On the one hand he should be able to handle an OLAP tool in the role of Business Manager to analyse a business problem. On the other hand, in the role of an IT person, he should be able to design and implement a multidimensional model based on the business needs.

This means:

  • being able to handle an OLAP tool from a managerial perspective (explorative searching for information).
  • being able to interpret a managerial business question and build a meaningful analysis and reporting for this.
  • Build tailored OLAP reports.
  • being able to create an OLAP cube and fill it up so that the cube meets functional requirements.

Assignments and study materials are on Toledo

During the practicum, students must mainly acquire the ability to work with an OLAP tool.
With the OLAP tool the student should apply the theoretical OLAP principles in practical exercises.
*
Seminar where students have to implement the theoretical principles into practices.
