The student can independently seek and understand documentation (schematics, datasheets, programming manuals, etc.).
The student can explain the basic concepts and construction of digital hardware.
The student can explain and apply the language, syntax, synthesis and simulation of VHDL.
The student is able to develop a solution from the available documentation and problem statement.
The student is able to test/validate a digital design using a testbench and then implement this digital design in an FPGA.

FPGA board (details: see digital learning platform)

During the first lab sessions, students complete guided lab assignments (on their Laptop) to become familiar with the development environment and the subject matter.

After that, students continue to work on an individual project.

Evaluation

Type : Partial or continuous assessment with (final) exam during the examination period
Description of evaluation : Written, Paper/Project
Type of questions : Open questions

AssessmentGrading scale
TOTAL1-20/20 scale
YT5568 - Digital Systems 2: Theory
YT5569 - Digital Systems 2: Lab

Digital Systems 2 theory:
Written exam 100%

Digital Systems 2 lab:
100% lab points based on a project. The exact content of the project must meet certain requirements and is always in consultation with the teacher. Students can work on this project during the lab (and at home). The project must be submitted along with a video demonstrating the operation and a report.

This course unit allows partial mark transfers in case of partial pass mark:

  • YT5568 - Digital Systems 2: Theory (during academic year)
  • YT5569 - Digital Systems 2: Lab (during academic year)
