    • International Tourism and Leisure - Start September

FIRST READ HERE HOW TO FILL IN YOUR ISP (Tips & tricks)
Not for starters (starter = first time enrolled in Phase 1)

      - Each student submits their individual study programme (ISP) no later than the second Wednesday of the academic year.
      - A student who registers after the start of the academic year has one week to submit an individual year programme.
      - Students who start the programme as of AY24-25 are required to register for 60 study points (ECTS) in their first year of studies (phase 1).
      - If the student graduates with more than 180 study points, because of changes in the curriculum, this is acceptable. The student will NOT get exempted from compulsory courses.
      - For some specific Tourism & Leisure courses, extra costs may apply and will be invoiced to the student. These costs may relate to extra-curricular activities, visits to industry partners outside of campus, or short mobilities abroad. (Examples of such costs may be, but are not limited to travel costs, transportation costs, use of online simulation tools,…)

      LANGUAGES:
      - In case the student has not submit 2 foreign languages by the predetermined deadline as mentioned in the OER ( Art 17: the study programme counsellor will decide and register the set languages below. (Unless this goes against the set rules for foreign languages, in that case the programme itself will determine another language).

o  Belgian student's foreign languages: Spanish and French
      o  International student's foreign languages = Dutch 1 + Français Débutant

      - Please note that for French there are two levels to start from. For Français débutant there is no preliminary knowledge necessary and cannot be selected by students who finished secondary school in Flanders. For Français Touristic 1 preliminary knowledge is required, (level B1: Only to be booked by students who finished secondary school in Flanders). Français Touristic courses are only to be booked by students with a diploma from a Flanders secondary school, and who achieved B1 level.
      - It is the student’s responsibility to acquire the necessary language levels (3 modules =18 ECTS) over the course of the 3-year programme.

      STUDY EXCHANGE:
      - Students decide in their first year (by 10/2 for Declaration of Intent and 25/4 for MoveOn application) whether to go on a study exchange in their second year (4th semester). Note: Prerequisites, including phase 1 study points, apply for studying abroad.
      - As Study Exchange is optional in the 2nd semester of the 2nd year, students choosing not to participate in study exchange will be offered a compelling set of mandatory courses at Thomas More during Phase 2 SEM 2, the study exchange semester.

      ELECTIVES:
      - Students will add 3 stp. elective courses to their ISP in the 3rd phase. The model trajectory suggests that electives are booked until you have at least 30 study points per semester. First all mandatory courses must be booked in the ISP.
      - Some elective courses will accept a maximum number of students and for some courses extra costs may apply to the expense of the student.

      • ELECTIVES

        -  After registering for your mandatory courses, you choose electives until you get a minimum of 180 credits in your ISP.
        -  Students are responsible for verifying ECTS content, course continuity, and schedules. In case of time conflicts with compulsory courses, no special accommodations are provided. Additionally, some elective OPO registrations may have limited spots and are confirmed only upon approval by the study counselor.
        -  Try to ensure a balanced spread per semester and per phase (year 2 and/or 3). You can choose from the elective list below.
        -  For some electives: specific registration, travel or accommodation costs may apply and be invoiced to the expense of the student. Always check the ECTS fiche or check with the lecturer.

        REMARKS:
        -  International Project ACEEPT (SEM 1) is subject to availability. If you are interested in this course, you must contact Katrijn Krekels ASAP to check availability. (costs may apply at the expense of the student)
        -  Discovery internships 1 and 2 require approval from the study counselor and/or ITL Teamlead. They are available from phase 2 onwards. Notify your ITL teamlead of your interest at least one semester before undertaking the internship. This OPO can serve as an extension of a 15-week or 9-week internship.
        -  When you choose an IATA (online) elective, you must do your exam within the same academic year you take the course.
        -  To join the Hospitality University Challenge (OPO YE0426 in SEM2), students must apply and express their interest by the end of November in semester 1. Please be aware that applying doesn't guarantee participation, as there are limited slots available. Additionally, participation may involve costs for some challenges, which could be covered under a credit contract.
        - For courses ‘only bookable by ISP responsible’… please email Ariane Buysschaert and copy your teamlead as soon as possible at the beginning of the semester.

        • Tourism Electives

Normally, students coming in their final semester, phase 3, will choose 1 elective course.

"University challenges" (OPO YE0426) offer students unique opportunities for real-life cases, networking, meeting industry professionals, and global intercultural exchanges. The challenges occur either 100% online or abroad during a specific short period. Can be booked via a 'credit contract'. Extra costs may apply. Check with Teamlead for info. Must be booked in your ISP by the study councellor (see below).

To join a University Challenge in SEM2, apply by emailing the program teamlead in SEM1 before the end of November. Note: Applying doesn't guarantee acceptance due to limited slots offered by industry partners.

      • International Tourism and Leisure - Start(ed) initially in February

FIRST READ HERE HOW TO FILL IN YOUR ISP (Tips & tricks)
Not for starters (starter = first time enrolled in Phase 1)

        ·  Each student submits their individual study programme (ISP) no later than the second Wednesday of the academic year.
        ·  A student who registers after the start of the academic year has one week to submit an individual year programme.
        ·  Students who start the programme as of AY24-25 are required to register for 60 study points (ECTS) in their first year of studies (phase 1).
        ·  If the student graduates with more than 180 study points, because of changes in the curriculum, this is acceptable.

        LANGUAGES:
        ·  In case the student has not submit 2 foreign languages by the predetermined deadline as mentioned in the OER ( Art 17: the study programme counsellor will decide and register the set languages below. (Unless this goes against the set rules for foreign languages, in that case the programme itself will determine another language.)
o  Belgian student's foreign languages: Spanish and French
        o  International student's foreign languages = Dutch 1 + Français Débutant
        ·  Please note that for French there are two levels to start from.
        ·  It is the student’s responsibility to acquire the necessary language levels (3 modules =18 ECTS) over the course of the 3-year programme.

        STUDY EXCHANGE:
        ·  Students decide in their first year (by 10/2 for Declaration of Intent and 25/4 for MoveOn application) whether to go on a study exchange in their second year (3th study semester). Note: Prerequisites, including phase 1 study points, apply for studying abroad.
        ·  As Study Exchange is optional in the 2nd semester of phase 2, students choosing not to participate in study exchange will be offered a compelling set of mandatory courses at Thomas More during Phase 2 SEM 2, the study exchange semester.

        ELECTIVES:
        ·  Students will add 3 stp. elective courses to their ISP in the 3rd phase. The model trajectory suggests that electives are booked until you have at least 30 study points per semester. First all mandatory courses must be booked in the ISP.
        ·  Some elective courses will accept a maximum number of students and for some courses extra costs may apply to the expense of the student.

        • Compulsory courses: Phase 1 courses (Feb-June)

Students are expected to choose two foreign languages in this semester (1st level modules).

FINAL STUDY SEMESTER FEB STARTERS: CONSULT YOUR STUDY PATH COORDINATOR TO CREATE YOUR ISP.

During your 6th semester of your studies, you may normally register for your Bachelor Project.
PLEASE NOTE: If you did not pass International Tourism Project YE0339 and/or Immersive Tourist Experiences Lab YE0415 with possible other phase 2 courses, your ISP needs to be discussed with the study path coordinator, Mrs. Buysschaert. o Belgian Dutch speaking student's foreign languages: Espanol and Français (Touristique)
o Belgian French speaking student’s foreign languages: Espanol + Nederlands
          o International student's foreign languages = Nederlands 1 + Français Débutant

          -  Try to ensure a balanced spread per semester (elective to be chosen in block 3 or 4 and 6).

          -  Students who want to register for and participate in one of the Hospitality University Challenges (OPO YE0426 during SEM2), they must submit their application and communicate their interest during semester 1 (deadline end of November). Note: Applying does not automatically mean you are accepted to participate. Only a limited number of students can participate in the university challenges. (Can be booked under a credit contract / Note: for some challenges costs may apply to the expense of the student)
          -  For electives ‘only bookable by ISP responsible’… please email and copy your teamlead as soon as you decide or in case you have questions.
